Everyday Heroes was a partnership project that gathered children’s priorities and recommendations for tackling gender inequality and gender-based violence to inform the Scottish Government’s Equally Safe Delivery Plan. The project was funded by the Scottish Government and coordinated by the University of Edinburgh, Rape Crisis Scotland, Barnardo’s Scotland, Scottish Women’s Aid and the Scottish Youth Parliament. The partnership and a group of young advisors worked together to design engagement sessions and a survey to ask children and young people across Scotland:

• What would improve the journeys of young survivors of gender-based violence through services and the justice system?
• What could help improve societal attitudes and people’s lives in relation to gender equality?

125 children and young people took part in engagement sessions and 439 young people took part in a Scotland-wide survey about gender inequality co-developed with MSYPs (Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament). For more information about the Everyday Heroes project, visit the website.
